Each year, an audition committee of professional musicians selects a few exceptional students ensembles to represent the NEC Honors Ensemble Program.
The Spruce Quartet is coached by violist Roger Tapping of the faculty, a former member of the Takács Quartet and new member of the Juilliard Quartet. Tapping will play as a guest with the Quartet. The Quartet will also play an excerpt from a 2011 work by Cody W. Forrest '15 DMA, a student of Malcolm Peyton. Members of the Spruce Quartet are: Alexi Kenney, violin; Caroline Goulding, violin; Ji Hee Han, viola; Tony Rymer, cello.
The Program:
Mozart: String Quartet in G Major, K387 "Spring"
Mendelssohn: String Quintet in A Major, Op. 18
with Roger Tapping, guest violist
Cody W. Forrest: Excerpt from Book of Prayers (2011)
Beethoven: String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 131
