Each year, an audition committee of professional musicians selects a few exceptional students ensembles to represent the NEC Honors Ensemble Program.
The first of this year's ensembles to schedule a Jordan Hall concert is the Seuss Quartet, made up of violinists Alexi Kenney and Kobi Malkin, violist Emily Deans, and cellist Jonathan Dormand.
The group, coached by NEC chamber music chair Roger Tapping, presents a program that covers the entire lifespan of the quartet literature, from Franz Joseph Haydn in the 18th century to the premiere of a work by Kevin Kim '13, a student of Michael Gandolfi and John Mallia.
Haydn Quartet in C Major, Op. 20, No. 2
Beethoven Quartet No. 11 in F Minor, Op. 95, "Serious"
Kim String Quartet No. 2 world premiere
Schnittke String Quartet No. 3
The Seuss Quartet also performs February 14 as part of an NEC Contemporary Ensemble concert.
