Aldo Abreu, Director

This small ensemble is open by audition to upper intermediate string players.  This ensemble, which occasionally includes advanced recorder players, specializes in music from the Baroque and Renaissance periods by composers such as Purcell, Schmelzer, Rosenmuller, Woodcock, Vivaldi and Corelli.  The Recorder and String Orchestra participates in several masterclasses with renowned guest artists who specialize in Baroque Music. Past guests have included Julie McKenzie and Julie Leven.  Additionally, members of this group are able to audition for the opportunity to perform a Baroque concerto with the orchestra.  While orchestra assignments are made by level, not age, most members are in grades 3-11.

Baroque Ensembles range in size and offer a more intimate study than the larger orchestras. These chamber music size groups allow for one or just a few player(s) per part. This smaller group setting allows students to develop chamber music skills learning to listen to each other.
