Rare String Instruments Are the Prize

NEC string players are among those awarded extended loans of rare instruments this fall by the Canada Council Musical Instrument Bank.

NEC string players are among those awarded extended loans of rare instruments this fall by the Canada Council Musical Instrument Bank. Three of the five cellists to receive these precious loans are NEC students or alumni, along with one NEC violinist. This year's winners will have the use of their instruments through 2018.

In order of instrument's age, here are the recipients:

Every three years, talented Canadian classical musicians compete for the chance to borrow fine stringed instruments from the Canada Council’s Musical Instrument Bank. The jury members for the 2015 competition were: Mary-Katherine Finch, Clemens Merkel, Maria Kaneko Millar and NEC alumna Lara St. John '96 A.D.
