Great artists give free concerts at New England Conservatory—simply because they teach here.

Nicholas Kitchen, founding first violinist of NEC's quartet-in-residence, the Borromeo String Quartet, gives a solo recital devoted to the complete Sonatas and Partitas of J.S. Bach. The tech-savvy Kitchen will preface the performance with a short video he has created to explicate the Sonatas. Kitchen's engagement with technology is well-known and ranges from his leading the Borromeo Quartet to adopt laptops instead of music stands and printed music to the creation of a distance learning curriculum called Mathemusica that helps young students learn both math and music. Click here to read about the use of laptops to project the manuscript score of the Mendelssohn Octet during a performance.  Kitchen and the Borromeos were featured in a New York Times article about their pathbreaking utilization of technology.
