NEC says "Thank you, Boston" with the 11-concert "NEC Prep Presents" series. Free admission to these concerts by senior Prep ensembles marks our gratitude for community support of NEC's Campus Redevelopment Plan.
Ken Schaphorst, chair of NEC's College jazz studies department, founded this Preparatory student jazz orchestra in 2008. The only community jazz orchestra of its kind in the Boston area, the YJO is open by audition to all musicians high school age or younger. The ensemble strives to give young musicians opportunities to learn and perform together in an environment of high expectations and standards. In addition to its concerts at NEC, the group has performed at Boston's First Night almost since its founding.
