NEC says "Thank you, Boston" all year with its "NEC Prep Presents" concerts. Free admission to these concerts by senior Prep ensembles marks our gratitude for the support of the City of Boston and the parents, siblings, schools, and music teachers who make our work possible.
Ken Schaphorst, chair of NEC's College jazz studies department, founded this Preparatory student jazz orchestra in 2008. The only community jazz orchestra of its kind in the Boston area, the YJO is open by audition to all musicians high school age or younger. The ensemble strives to give young musicians opportunities to learn and perform together in an environment of high expectations and standards.
