What was your first impression of NEC? How has that changed since you’ve been here?

I loved Jordan Hall, but now I realize there’s much more to NEC than that. There’s lot of great nooks and crannies to go and relax.

Tell me about your musical backstory…what got you to where you are today?

I got my B.A. in Music as a musicology major at Trinity College Dublin and my masters at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin. After that I felt like I still needed more time in school, so I started looking on the East Coast and found NEC by recommendation.

What is the best thing about life as a voice major?

The opera students know each other really well, even though it’s a big class we all have classes together and are very close. It really feels like family.

What is the biggest challenge you’re proud to have overcome here?

Learning to let go of myself when performing, giving in to the music and becoming confident enough to do that.

What advice would you give to incoming students?

Get to know everything NEC has to offer, but don’t overload yourself. Figure out what you want to focus on and do that.

Even though it’s a big class, we all have classes together and are very close. It really feels like family.
