painting by Sonja Maneri

Two violists—James Bergin and Mat Maneri—talk about microtonality in the late Joe Maneri’s compositions, and how he internalized these concepts in his improvisation. As classical and improvising violinists, they compare their approaches across their respective disciplines.

Bergin, a former student of Joe Maneri, is executive director of the Boston Microtonal Society.

This workshop is open to performers and composers from all disciplines who are interested in exploring approaches to microtonality in improvisation and composition.
