Great artists give free concerts at New England Conservatory—simply because they teach here.
Bel Canto
A teacher of voice for over ten years, soprano Jennifer Sgroe is a winner of the National Opera Association Vocal Competition. She has also performed for audiences at the General Assembly of the United Nations and at Carnegie and Radio City Music Halls. Operatic roles she has played before include Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Adele (Die Fledermaus), and Romilda (Xerxes). Sgroe is currently the Chair of the Preparatory School’s Voice Department.
This recital will feature songs, arias, and duets by the Italian composers Donizetti, Bellini, Rossini, Tosti, and Verdi.
Joining Sgroe onstage will be tenor Jameson James and pianist James Busby. Serving on the faculty of the School of Continuing Education as well as the Preparatory School, James has performed with Boston Lyric Opera, Aspen Opera Theater, and New York Lyric Opera.
Busby, an NEC alumnus, is a well-known vocal coach, collaborative pianist, and organist, travelling throughout the Northeast. He has recently appeared with vocalists at Seiji Ozawa Hall and Tanglewood and can be heard on WGBH radio.
