At New England Conservatory, jazz runs hot in young musicians' veins. It means the blaze of improvisation and individual creativity, the warmth of interaction in small ensembles. Experimentation is encouraged. And that's cool!

This tradition goes back 40 years, when NEC launched the first fully accredited jazz studies program at a music conservatory. In celebrating the 40th anniversary of this creative first, NEC dips into the past, present, and future, with a week of club dates in New York. A similar series of club appearances set Boston's jazz clubs ablaze back in October.

New York's bustling 42nd Street is the setting for a grand assembly of NEC jazz stars at B.B. King's Blues Club & Grill, with radio announcer Josh Jackson, host of WBGO's "The Checkout," as master of ceremonies.

The ever-growing artist roster includes vocalist Dominique Eade; multi-instrumentalist/singer Sarah Jarosz '13; guitarist Joe Morris; pianists Ran Blake, John Medeski '88, Jason Moran, Matthew Shipp '84, and Bernie Worrell '67; drummers Anton Fig '75 and Billy Martin; turntablist DJ Logic; and Lake Street Dive. Doors open at 6pm, and performances begin at 8pm. Plan on staying till the end!

B.B. King's Blues Club & Grill is located at 237 W. 42nd Street, just off of Times Square.
