Great artists give public lectures and masterclasses at New England Conservatory—simply because they teach here.
Pianist Fred Hersch is a mainstay of the NEC jazz faculty who has brought unique demonstrations of his artistry as a solo pianist, composer, and collaborator to his Jordan Hall concerts. Hersch's teaching residency at NEC this week comes on the verge of a major national tour in which Hersch will perform with his trio, solo, and in duo with Julian Lage, with whom he recently released the recording Free Flying. Hersch will return to Boston on November 21 to perform with Lage at Scullers.
In today's masterclass, Hersch works with NEC student ensembles. NEC students will perform Hersch's music tomorrow night in a concert that concludes this residency.
