Great artists give free concerts at New England Conservatory—simply because they teach here.

Jazz pianist/composer Fred Hersch celebrates his return to the New England Conservatory faculty with this solo recital. Hersch released a "Live at Jordan Hall" recording a decade ago—one of the first recordings made in the hall after its 1996 restoration, and one of the few jazz recordings ever made in this acoustically perfect space. A January 31 lead article in the New York Times Magazine calls Hersch an "innovator of … borderless, individualistic jazz—a jazz for the 21st century."

Hersch will announce his program from the stage, and will perform his own compositions as well as music by Thelonious Monk, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and more.
