After more than three decades as a member of the BSO, Richard Mackey retired from the orchestra at the end of the 2005 Tanglewood season. Mackey has also been a member of the Cleveland Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony, and the Japan Philharmonic of Tokyo, and played in the Los Angeles studios for eight years. He has taken part in the Marlboro Festival for ten summers.
