Leslie Amper's piano performances have been called “noble, intense and urgent,” “artistically versatile,” “authoritative, intelligent,” and “stupendous.”

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she won nearly every award offered for young musicians, she spent her summers at Interlochen and the Aspen Music Festival. After two years at Oberlin College, Miss Amper continued her studies at New England Conservatory with Rudolph Kolisch, Gunther Schuller and Russell Sherman and finished her degree “with distinction.” While at the Conservatory, she won the First Annual Jordan Hall honors competition and played Prokofieffʼs Piano Concerto No. 3 at the graduation ceremonies.

Since her critically acclaimed New York début, Miss Amper has delighted audiences in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and Pittsburgh and at the Monadnock Musicʼs Virtuoso Piano Series. A member of the Alcyon Chamber Ensemble and the Jubilee Trio,  Leslie Amper has also been a regular participant in Bostonʼs Emmanuel Music celebrations of the solo, song and chamber music of Schumann, Schubert, Brahms and Débussy.  

Accomplished in contemporary music, Miss Amper's Neuma Records recording of Andrew Imbrieʼs Short Story was selected for broadcast on the international radio program, “Art of the States.” Her concerto appearances include the Boston Pops, Pittsburgh Symphony and The Eastern Music Festival Orchestra.

Miss Amper's performances have been noted more than once in the year-end “Best of Boston” section of The Boston Globe. As a recipient of the NEA Solo Recitalist Grant, she presented Messiaenʼs monumental Vingt Regards sur lʼEnfant Jésus in Boston, New York, Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. Her other one-of-a-kind performances include The Sound of Color: Débussy and the Visual Arts, a recital with art lecture presented at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston during its major impressionist still life show, Songs of Struggle and Resolution, a psychological progression through American song and spirituals with the Jubilee Trio and Chopin and Me: Chopins 24 Préludes with performance artist Mary Paula Hunter.

Miss Amper was invited by the cutting edge theatre director Peter Sellars to be an onstage pianist playing Scriabin in his American National Theater production in Washington, D.C. of Chekhov's A Seagull.

Currently teaching at Longy School of Music of Bard College,  New England Conservatory Preparatory, and Wheaton College, Miss Amper has lectured at Harvard College, Boston University, University of Pittsburgh and New Hampshire Music Festival, where she is a regular performer.
