Kodály Music Institute; Vocal Vacation

Jonathan C. Rappaport is codirector of the Kodály Music Institute at NEC. He was Executive Director of the Conservatory Lab Charter School in Brighton, Mass., from 2004 to 2007, and Performing Arts Liaison of the Worcester Public Schools from 1994 to 2004. In addition to his degrees in music, Rappaport has extensive Kodály training, with a diploma from the Kodály Musical Training Institute, including a year of study at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest. 

Jonathan Rappaport has served as the choral director of numerous schools, children’s festival honors choirs, churches, synagogues, and community choral groups, including the Cancion chorus of Vocal Vacation at NEC since 2004, the Little Singers of Greater Boston, and the Broadmoor Chamber Singers (Natick, Mass.), as well as the Worcester Public Schools All-City Chorus.

Rappaport is also active as a composer, author, and publisher. His 18 choral compositions for children’s choirs and three books regarding the Kodály Concept of music education have been widely acclaimed. Rappaport has received numerous awards for his work in the arts, including the Moss Hart Award (New England Theatre Conference, 2000), the Lowell Mason Award (Mass. Music Educators Association, 2004), the Distinguished Service Award (Mass. Music Educators Association, 2007), and the Irene Buck Service to Arts Education Award (Mass. Alliance for Arts Education, 2004).

B.M.E., University of Denver Lamont School of Music; M.M. with honors, NEC, coursework towards a Ph.D. at UMass/Amherst.
