James Mosher has taught horn and chamber music at New England Conservatory Preparatory School since 2006. His private students consistently hold top positions in all of the NEC Youth Orchestras. His high school and middle school students have won highest honors on numerous occasions at the Massachusetts Junior and Senior District Music Festivals. Many of his pupils have gone on to be selected as Principal horns in the Mass. All-State Festivals, the All-Eastern USA Orchestra, and the National Youth Orchestra of the USA, sponsored by the Carnegie Hall Foundation in New York.
Mr. Mosher performs and records widely as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician, and has appeared with all of the leading ensembles in New England, including the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops. He performs on historical natural horns with Boston Baroque, Handel & Haydn Society and Musicians of The Old Post Road, with whom he has made several CD recordings. He has been Solo Horn with the Sarasota Opera Orchestra in Florida, the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo, Brazil, as well as the Key West Symphony. As concerto soloist he has appeared with the Hillyer Festival Orchestra at the Hatch Shell on the Boston Esplanade, the Simon Sinfonietta in Falmouth, MA and the Boston Virtuosi. Equally at home in jazz settings, he has recorded numerous albums with the Jazz Composers Alliance (JCA) Orchestra of Boston. In addition to teaching at NEC, he directs his own active private teaching studio, Frenchhornstudio.com, in Newton, MA. He is founder and director of The Brass Consortium, a quintet of top-level professional brass musicians in the Boston area. In the summers Mr. Mosher is horn and chamber music instructor at Music On The Hill, in Belmont, MA as well as the Saarburg International Chamber Music Festival in Germany.
