Conductor and mezzo-soprano Erica Washburn comes to NEC from the Greatbatch School of Music of Houghton College, where she was an instructor of voice, and also, director of both the Houghton College Women's Choir and Camerata Singers. As a graduate student at East Carolina University, Washburn served as conductor of the ECU Women's Chorale. She has also served as director of the NYSSMA Zone 7 Area All-State Choir, and as assistant conductor to the Eastman Women's Chorus.

While in residence in Rochester, NY, Washburn was featured on the Eastman-St. Michaels Recital Series, performing selections of Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn with the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra, Vaughan Williams's Serenade to Music with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and Vivaldi’s Gloria with the Genesee Valley Orchestra and Chorus. She was also the resident soloist at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, in Pittsford, NY, and was a member of the professional Rochester choral ensemble The Christ Church Schola Cantorum. She has appeared as a soloist at the Rochester Memorial Art Gallery for the Eastman Rochester Organ Initiative Festival.

Other performance credits include Ravel’s Shéhérazade with the East Carolina University Symphony, Madame Lidoine in Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites, Rebecca Nurse in Robert Ward's The Crucible, and Aminta in Mozart's Il re pastore.

Washburn made her Eastman Opera Theatre debut in January 2008, portraying the role of Mother/Allison in the premiere of Lee Hoiby’s This is the Rill Speaking, and in April 2008, she served as chorus master for the Eastman Opera Theatre production of Lehar’s The Merry Widow.
