Betty Lou Farnham (d. 2006), director of NEC's Wellesley Branch beginning in the early 1960s, died June 1, 2006. During her seven-year tenure, the enrollment quadrupled at the branch, necessitating a move from the basement of the Unitarian Church in Wellesley Hills to its own facility on Grove Street in Wellesley. Farnham, a pianist and teacher, graduated from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and taught at Peabody Conservatory and was publicity director for the Santa Fe Opera before her NEC appointment. She partnered Grace E. Urrico '60, '63 M.M. in a piano duo that performed in NEC's Jordan Hall in 1963 and thereafter in Rhode Island, Iowa, and Pennsylvania.
