Anne Howarth, horn, is an active chamber musician, orchestral player and teacher in the Boston area. She has a particular passion for chamber music, and she is motivated by music’s ability to connect folks - performers, audience members, composers, and community members - on a human level.
Howarth plays principal horn with the Lexington Symphony and Plymouth Philharmonic and performs regularly with other area ensembles. She is a founding member and Outreach Director of the mixed-instrumentation chamber group Radius Ensemble, is a senior member of the wind quintet Vento Chiaro, and is one of the newest members of Juventas New Music Ensemble. She has also appeared at Monadnock Music and with faculty ensembles from Tufts University.
Fueled by an interest in the intersection between music and dance, Howarth has collaborated with Monkeyhouse and dancer/choreographer Karen Krolak. Together they have presented programs exploring various integrations of sound and movement. Howarth has a strong interest in the connections formed between people and the wider community through live performance, a theme she has explored in recitals and in the commissioning of new works.
During the pandemic, Howarth experimented with solo performing, combining horn playing with lighting and technology elements and livestreaming content through a variety of ensembles. Howarth is a native of the Detroit area and holds degrees in both Horn Performance and Environmental Studies. When not playing or teaching, she can be found gardening, swimming, or exploring the world.

Horn studies with Douglas Hill, James Somerville, Richard King, Jay Wadenpfuhl, Wolfgang Gaag, Jean Rife, Føydis Ree Wekre, and Julie Landsman. Also faculty at Tufts University, Brookline Music School, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and Milton Afterschool Lesson Program.
