NEC Preparatory School piano students are invited to audition for biannual tours of European music capitals, led by Prep piano chair Marilyn Roth. These are visits to the places where the great pianist-composers lived, performed, and wrote their music. The tour participants will perform in these same places and have masterclasses with professors at great European music schools. 2014 marks the sixth piano tour with past destinations being: Vienna, Salzburg, Weimar, Leipzig, Prague, and Budapest.
This year's tour will be heading to Vienna and Budapest. Activities will include a concert at Musikeschule Margareten, a guided tour of the Musikverein and Esterhazy Palace, a boat ride on the Danube, and a masterclass with a local professional pianist, and a concert at the Bela Bartok Conservatory.
Tonight's kick off program features works by Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Haydn, Liszt, Schumann, Griffiths, Brahms, Schubert, and Ligeti.
