An Evening in Valhalla

Wagner Gala concert to benefit new Student Life and Performance Center

New England Conservatory will present a gala performance of one of the most memorable sections of Richard Wagner’s Ring cycle, Wednesday December 10 in NEC’s Jordan and Brown Halls.  The concert performance of Act III from Die Walküre will feature some of the world’s most illustrious Wagnerians including dramatic soprano and NEC voice faculty Jane Eaglen as Brunnhilde, bass-baritone Greer Grimsley as Wotan, and conductor Robert Spano leading the NEC Philharmonia. Highlighted by a pre-concert cocktail reception and celebratory post-concert dinner, the event will benefit the building fund for the Conservatory’s planned Student Life and Performance Center.

The conservatory’s first major building project since construction of the 1959 residence hall, the SLPC is slated for  groundbreaking in summer 2015 and completion in 2017, the same year as NEC’s 150th anniversary. An $85 million project that will transform student life, it will feature a new 252-bed dormitory, dining commons, reunited score and listening libraries, black box theatre/Opera Studio, large and small ensemble rooms, and multiple areas for socializing and meeting.

An Evening in Valhalla will commence with the Pre-Concert Reception in Brown Hall at 6:00 pm. The performance, at 7 p.m. will follow in Jordan Hall.  The Post-Concert Dinner will take place at 8:30 in Brown Hall.
