December is National Giving Month, and we would like to celebrate and honor our NEC alumni who dedicate their time by giving back to their communities.

Boston Symphony Orchestra has appointed Earl Lee '15 GD  as the orchestra’s new Assistant Conductor for a two-year term beginning with the 2021–22 season. 

Lina Gonzalez-Granados ’14 MM has been honored with a 2021 Sphinx Medal of Excellence.

Tristan Rais-Sherman '21 AD shares reflections from his past two performances conducting the NEC Philharmonia during this semester.

Grow Your Art grants totaling $13,500 have been awarded to NEC alumni Emily Eng, Darynn Dean, Rafael Natan, and Linda Numagami, and will support a microgrant program for Black, Latinx, and Native American music students, a series of concerts and film screenings around women in jazz, an accessible School of Arts and Social Justice, and a clarinet festival.

How do you rehearse and perform choral music in a pandemic? Last fall, graduate conductors Joseph Nizich '21 MM and Jennie Segal '21 MM led the NEC Concert Choir in a performance that combined both in-person and remote ensembles titled, "Great Music for a Great (Virtual) Space."

Collaborating with musicians across the city—many of them NEC alumni—NEC's Community Performances & Partnerships was honored to participate in the Boston Hope Hospital Music Hope Project.

College faculty member Ran Blake, conducting alum Aram Demirjian, and Prep students Ariel Wang, Evan Tsai, Luke Henderson, Sarah Campbell, Nathan Emans, and Zani Lewis have been honored for lifetime contributions to jazz, excellence in conducting, and exceptional musicianship in young chamber musicians, respectively.

Lina Gonzalez-Granados  ’14 MM has been named the fourth Sir Georg Solti Conducting Apprentice at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
