Death of Andrew Carter

NEC Mourns loss of longtime supporter, husband of faculty flutist Renee Krimsier

New England Conservatory is mourning the death of Andrew M. Carter, a highly successful and innovative bond manager who had been a long-time supporter of NEC.  Carter, 74, and married to flutist Renée Krimsier Carter ’78, ’80 M.M., an alumna and faculty member, died October 17 at his home on Beacon Hill.

Familiar to all for his natty attire and luxuriant curled moustache, Carter had brought an enviable zest to both his investment career and his generous philanthropic endeavors. Along with his support of several other institutions that benefited or educated young people, he served on NEC’s Board of Trustees for many years and on the Conservatory’s Investment Committee, which he chaired for a period of time.

He and his wife also endowed a scholarship that supported the education of gifted young musicians at NEC, often flute students. Since 2005, he had served on NEC’s Board of Overseers, and, in fact, he had attended the Overseers’ first meeting of the year just the day before his death.
