Rebecca has been associated with New England Conservatory throughout her music education and career. She has served as Director of the Preparatory School since 2012, but worked with the Prep School for several years prior, and received her undergraduate degree from NEC in Harp Performance. Rebecca's musical adventures have taken her around the globe in orchestral, chamber, and solo performances. In addition to summers at the International Festival at Round Top, Aspen Music Festival, and the Camden Harp Colony, she has given performances throughout the U.S. and Latin America.

Suzanne Hegland

Suzanne Hegland teaches College Writing and Critical Reading & Writing at New England Conservatory. She also serves as director of The Writing Center and as Dean of Students. Her writing has appeared in the Boston Globe, The Huffington Post, The World Scholar, and Creative Nonfiction. In addition to teaching, Suzanne is founder of Essay Therapy, a one-on-one coaching service helping writers at all levels from brainstorm to the final draft.

Tanya Maggi

Violist Tanya Maggi is an internationally recognized arts educator and has worked on community engagement projects around the globe to connect musicians with diverse audiences. She also has performed with numerous orchestras and chamber groups around the country including the Tulsa Philharmonic, the Youngstown Symphony, the Akron Symphony, Quincy Bay Chamber Orchestra, and Emmanuel Music, among others, and was a member of the renowned New World Symphony where she was awarded the distinguished prize of “Musician of the Year”.  A strong advocate and performer of new music, Tanya has collaborated with various contemporary music ensembles and series including Furious Band, New Gallery Concert Series, Dinosaur Annex (Boston), Music on the Edge (Pittsburgh) and Prism Projects (New York) and has been involved in contemporary music concerts under the direction of Oliver Knussen, Reinbert de Leeuw and John Adams.  She has also been involved in numerous musical collaborations with organizations such as The Stone Mountain Arts Center, Salem Art Works, New Genre Festival, Mid-Western Theater Company, and the Harvard Middle Eastern Ensemble.

Rachel Roberts

Director of Entreprenurial Musicianship

Appointed as Founder & Director of NECs Entrepreneurial Musicianship department in 2009, Rachel designed a major new initiative to equip young musicians with extra-musical skills in support of their artistic careers. Over the past six years, Rachel has launched experiential programs and curricula, including a signature grant initiative, courses on arts entrepreneurship, fellowships, and creative performance projects. Prior to joining NEC, Rachel served as the first Director of Strategic Planning Engagement for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, working on organization-wide strategic and governance objectives. Rachel received a degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in May 2015. A student of the Special Studies Program, she crafted her coursework to focus on leadership and organizational change.

Dan Schmunk

Dan is a life-long student of music and music education. He has taught all aspects of music at all levels in both public and private institutions, with his most recent post as the Director of Choral Music at Lexington Christian Academy, a private college preparatory school in Lexington, Massachusetts. As a church musician, Dan has held positions at Tremont Temple Baptist Church in Boston, the first integrated church in America, and at Boston’s historic Park Street Church where he currently serves as Director of Choral Music. He continues to teach privately on the North Shore of Boston, where he lives with his wife, a soprano, and three boys, all promising optional percussionists.
