Undoubtedly the most dramatic new performance space in the Student Life and Performance Center is the Opera Studio, a so-called black box, which can be arranged in multiple configurations.  Such flexibility will make it adaptable to numerous styles of opera production as well as other performance or conference needs.

The Studio is approximately 3,500 square feet, and occupies two floors vertically, with a 22-foot-high ceiling and a pipe grid for lighting and staging over the entire space. The room is acoustically isolated from other program spaces, and can be tuned for different sized groups.

Seating is entirely flexible, and a series of adjustable platforms allows the room to be arranged with completely flat floor, traditional frontal staging with orchestra pit, or arena seating. Depending on the layout selected, the space can accommodate an audience of up to 200–210 persons.

A dedicated storage area and control room allows for full stage management for performances and recording.
