Family, friends, and colleagues will gather to celebrate the life of violinist Masuko Ushioda, faculty member since 1974 and wife of cellist and NEC president emeritus Laurence Lesser. Ushioda died on May 28 after battling leukemia. “First Lady” of NEC during Lesser’s presidency, Ushioda won the Silver Medal in the 1966 Tchaikovsky Competition, performed internationally, then pursued a happily balanced life focusing on teaching, playing chamber music, and enjoying family, gourmet cooking, and travel.
