Course and Private Lesson Registration Deadlines

There are no late fees for SCE private lesson registrations.  However, no registrations for SCE classes or ensembles will be accepted after the third week of classes.  Registrations for private lessons are accepted at any time.

Certificate Application and Registration

To request the Certificate Application Form, please call 617-585-1701 or email continuingeducation@necmusic.edu.  In order for your application to be reviewed, it must be completed and sent with all supporting documentation to the address on the form. This applies for all certificate offerings. Application for a certificate program does not guarantee admission.  Criteria for admission varies by department. Please feel free to contact the office at 617-585-1701 with any questions about the certificate programs or the Abreu fellowship program.

Financial Aid

SCE Financial Aid, although limited, is available to those in need of tuition support. The completed financial aid form, as well as your income documentation, is required to be considered for financial aid grants. Financial aid forms are available under the Forms and Downloads tab to the left.  Please call 617-585-1701 if you have any questions.  Please send all completed materials to us on the address listed on the form Continuing Education Financial Aid Application Form. Please note that your financial aid package is pro-rated based on your course load. If you change your course load after financial aid has been awarded, your scholarship will be pro-rated accordingly.

Adults registering for SCE offerings should first contact the Director of Continuing Education with your complete course of study and your financial documentation (completed tax forms, payroll stubs, etc.). If you would like private lessons, please call 617-585-1701 for a private teacher placement and to determine the length and number of lessons. The SCE Director will award your financial aid and pending approval of your pay-plan from the business office; you will then register and make your first payment to complete your registration process.

Transcripts

Transcripts can be requested with the Continuing Education Transcript Request Form. Each transcript requires a $6.00 fee. Transcripts cannot be issued for students with outstanding fees or fines. Add/Drops

Add/drops cannot be done online.  If you have questions about adding or dropping a class, please contact the Registrar at 617-585-1314.  Refunds will be awarded based on the policy below.  Notifying an instructor of your intent to add or drop is not sufficient and does not constitute enrollment or withdrawal from a course.

Withdrawal and Refund Policy

Students may withdraw from courses and ensembles and receive a refund according to the following schedule:
• During the first week of class/lessons, 75% course fee refunded.
• After the first week through the second week, 50% course fee refunded.
• After the second week through the third week, 25% course fee refunded.
• After the third week, no refund.
For refund purposes, chamber ensembles are deemed to begin the first week of each semester.

Students must request withdrawal from a class in person or in writing to the Registrar. Informing an instructor of a decision to withdraw from a course, stopping or withholding payment, and not attending classes do not constitute withdrawal from a course.

Exceptional refund requests will be reviewed when the request is made in writing with adequate documentation.

The school reserves the right to cancel any class or ensemble with insufficient enrollment. In the case of a course cancellation, the student will receive a full refund of tuition and the registration fee.

Incompletes and Make-Up Work

Students registered for credits must complete all work by the end of each semester. Incompletes will be granted only to those students who are unable to complete course requirements as the result of illness (a doctor’s note will be required) a death in the family or extenuating circumstances. All incomplete courses must be completed no later than two weeks after the beginning of the next semester (Fall, Spring, Summer).  Extensions beyond the two weeks are at the discretion of the instructor but are not allowed to carry over into an additional semester.

Private Lesson Withdrawals and Refunds

Because teachers set aside time slots on the basis of registrations and often refuse other students, both the teacher and the student must agree on the amount refunded to a student who wishes to withdraw.  Any instances in which the teacher and student cannot agree should be referred to the Director of Continuing Education.

Students are expected to appear for regularly scheduled lessons.  Teacher absences will be made up at times arranged with the student.  If the student and teacher agree that the number of registered lessons cannot be met in the semester, students may make up the lessons missed in the following semester (Fall, Spring, Summer) or request a refund before the close of the semester for which the student was initially registered.

Student absences for any reason do not qualify as refundable missed lessons.  Teachers may make up these lessons at their discretion, but a makeup cannot be guaranteed for absences incurred by the student.
