Celebrations of the centennial year of composer Benjamin Britten (1913–1976) have been going on all year. At NEC, we began the year with performances of Britten's opera based on the Henry James novella The Turn of the Screw.
Going into fall, we've stepped up the pace with work from all periods of Britten's output, and covering vocal music, chamber music, and orchestral works. The Boston Symphony Orchestra marked the celebration with performances of the War Requiem the week of November 7. NEC President Tony Woodcock, inspired by this programming, has dug back into his own personal history with Britten's music in a blog entry for the Huffington Post.
