Bob Brookmeyer taught at New England Conservatory from 1997 to 2007, and created NEC's Jazz Composers' Workshop Orchestra, which is now under the direction of Frank Carlberg. This orchestra gives young composers the opportunity to learn how to rehearse and conduct a band, as well as to have their works hear in live performance.

Brookmeyer died December 15, 2011, a few weeks before what would have been his 82nd birthday. Tonight's concert and this panel discussion with Brookmeyer's former students are NEC's tribute to his impact on the language of jazz and on the musicians who performed and composed under his tutelage here.
