Oscar Penas '07Guitarist Oscar Peñas '07 M.M. recently released his album "From Now On"which also includes NEC alumni Dan Blake '04 on saxophone and drummer Richie Barshay '05.  The album is modern jazz infused with Spanish and South American influences.  Oscar currently resides in New York City.  2012-01-26

 

 

 

 

Marisa Licata '07, '09 M.M. and Charles Licata '85Marissa Licata ’07, ’09 M.M. a violinist, has been busy in the past year with various projects including live performances on tour with Fran Healy (lead singer of the band Travis), and features at Scullers Jazz Club with Grace Kelly, and Danilo Perez at Eric Jackson's Tribute Concert. She has been featured annually with Jethro Tull since 2006 and Ian Anderson's solo show.  In June of this year she was featured with Alicia Keys. Other performances this year have included features with Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, and Icelandic band Sigur Ros.  Marisa and her father, Charles Licata ’85 M.M. recorded an album together at WGBH.  This album will officially be released at her solo show at Scullers Jazz Club on January 31, 2012. 2011-12-13

 

"My Garden" Nicholas Urie '07, '09 MM, Jazz Performance and CompositionJazz musician, composer, and conductor Nicholas Urie ’07, ’09 M.M. is releasing his second album, My Garden, featuring poems by Charles Bukowski. The CD features an ensemble that includes many NEC alums and faculty. More information about the recording can be found on Nicholas’ website. 2011-05-12

 

Kristina Goettler '07 MM, Oboe Performance (Photo: NWS)Kristina Goettler ’07 M.M. will be joining the Kansas City Symphony in September 2011 as Principal Oboe. She is currently finishing her second year with New World Symphony and performed the Martinu Oboe Concerto with them in March 2011. 2011-05-12

 

 

 

 

Johannes Berauer '07 MM, CompositionComposer Johannes Berauer '07 M.M. won the 2010 "Scrivere in Jazz" Competition in Sassari, Italy. An international jury awarded the prize for his piece Falling which was composed during his studies at NEC. He also was finalist in the ArtEZ Composition Contest in Holland this year. For 2011, he has received a commission to compose a new work for the Bruckner Symphony Orchestra of Linz, Austria, to be premiered at the opening concert of the 2011 Bruckner Festival. Also his Piano Trio Nr.1 has been published by Doblinger Vienna, and recorded by the Eggner Trio. 2011-01-06

 

Forward, Brian Landrus '07 MM, Jazz StudiesBrian Landrus ’07 M.M. recently received a record contract with Cadence Jazz Records for his CD Forward.  Artists on the album include former NEC faculty member George Garzone, Allan Chase ‘81, NEC faculty John Lockwood, Jason Palmer ’07, Tupac Mantilla ’07 M.M., and NEC faculty member Rakalam Bob Moses. Brian Landrus was also recently named Baritone Saxophone Rising Star in Downbeat Magazine's 2010 Critics Poll. Brian currently lives in New York. 2010-12-23

 

 

Jonathan Aner '07 MM, Piano PerformancePianist Jonathan Aner ’07 M.M., has been appointed as a professor for chamber music at the “Hanns Eisler” Music Academy in Berlin. Mr. Aner, a graduate of NEC’s Piano Trio Program, started his tenure in October 2010. Mr. Aner has performed as a soloist with Israel's leading orchestras, including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta. Further engagements as a soloist followed in Italy, Germany and China, where he recently performed at the closing concert of the National Centre for the Performing Arts’ May Festival 2010. He has performed recitals and chamber music concerts in such prestigious concert halls as the Berliner Philharmonie, Carnegie Hall, Auditorium du Louvre in Paris, Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Wallace Collection in London, Dom Muzyki in Moscow, in Asia, in Australia, and in his native Israel. 2010-12-16

 

Solomon Cross '07 M.M., Vocal PerformanceSolomon Cross ’07 M.M. is the newly appointed Director of Music & Choral activities at Ranger College in Ranger Texas. As the first director for this program, he conducts two choral ensembles, and teaches music appreciation, American music, and applied voice. He currently lives in the Dallas/Ft.
