Ron Clearfield '70Cellist, composer, and conductor Ron Clearfield ’70 has retired, after more than 11 years, as the conductor and music director for the Blue Ridge Orchestra in Asheville, NC.  He founded the orchestra in 1999, and it has since become a popular cultural and artistic asset in Western North Carolina, filling the need for a high-caliber community orchestra program in the area. Ron’s next orchestral project is the Appalachian Festival Orchestra, which will perform solely for benefits and causes. “I am overjoyed,” Clearfield said of his time conducting Asheville orchestras. “We are here for a short time and let’s face it — it’s not all about getting things done. It’s about enjoying life and enjoying existence in the most primal way: One breath at a time.” Ron is an active composer and performer and recently recorded with Steve Martin and Paul McCartney.2011-05-23
