Friday April 19, 9:50pm
Dear NEC Community members:
Just recently, it was reported that the suspect for the marathon bombing is now in custody, which certainly is a huge relief to everyone. Earlier this evening, the Governor lifted the "shelter in place" order, and MBTA service was restored. This information is important in our considerations for Saturday's schedule.
All Preparatory School classes, lessons, and rehearsals for Saturday, April 20th, will be held as usual BEGINNING AT 1:00 PM. Any activity prior to 1:00 pm is cancelled. If there are families that do not feel comfortable coming to Boston tomorrow, please contact Rebecca Bogers at rebecca.bogers@necmusic.edu.
The Jordan Hall and St. Botolph buildings remain closed in the morning, but will open at 1:00 pm. All College recitals scheduled for the evening will take place.
Sincere thanks, again, to our staff and security team for all of their excellent work during this very difficult day.
Friday April 19, 2:45pm
As the events of the day continue to unfold, we want to assure everyone that the safety and security of the NEC community remains our top priority. NEC is closed today with all classes and events canceled, including recitals and concerts this evening. We have been closely monitoring developments surrounding the pursuit of the suspect in the Boston Marathon tragedy. As you likely know from media reports, the focus of police activity is NOT in the immediate vicinity of NEC, but it is always wise to be as cautious as possible in such a situation.
According to the latest updates, the Governor's “shelter in place” order remains in effect for all of Boston. Residents are advised to stay indoors, keep doors locked and stay away from windows. Students living in the residence hall are required to remain in the dorm until further notice. Arrangements are being made to provide food for the students in the residence hall.
