SUMMARY:
- Proactively identify key prospects and new sources of private support for the Conservatory's fundraising efforts.
- Identify major and leadership donors to maintain a pipeline of income to support the Major Gift program and the next campaign.
- Link potential major and leadership donors with existing NEC community leaders.
- Review print and online sources for current information about alumni, higher education, philanthropy and business trends.
- Prepare concise, in-depth personal profiles or background reports on individuals, corporations or foundations for use by staff and volunteers in development activities.
- Research and write individual profiles for gift officers, volunteers and senior staff.
- Research and write a high volume of brief individual bios to help staff prepare for a trip or events.
- Maintain and update database of all donor bios.
- Research, verify and evaluate financial and biographical information on individual, foundation and corporate donors and prospects.
- Utilize various reference sources and databases, local government records and library reference sources.
- Examine media for economic changes and how they may affect potential donors.
- Assist in the review, selection and ordering of new research materials, including: directories, periodicals, on-line services.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of a prospect tracking system. Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of research systems and policies in order to stay dynamic in a changing environment.
- Keep track of prospects removed and added to the campaign.
- Monitor daily Research Requests.
- Run reports for prospect tracking, moves management, screenings, etc.
- Maintain research tracking system.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two (2) years of work experience (Graduate education may substitute for post-collegiate work experience).
- Previous experience in fundraising, higher education or an arts organization preferred.
- Strong computer skills including word-processing, spreadsheets and databases, internet and e-mail required. Advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite required.
- Knowledge of FileMaker Pro and SCT PowerCampus (integrated administrative software system) as well as SQL and Windows NT environments helpful.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment i.e. fax machines and photocopiers required.
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, as well as strong analytical and intuitive skills.
- Rigorous attention to detail and keen problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize high volume of information.
- High level of discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
- Previous familiarity with research techniques (online and offline) required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and flexibility that allow for quality relations with a variety of constituencies.
- Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and meet stringent deadlines in a service-oriented position.
- Ability to work both independently and with close direction.
- Ability and willingness to consult off-site resources (such as local libraries) when necessary.
- Background in music and/or familiarity with a conservatory environment helpful.
- Employee must be able to relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions: works well with co-workers or peers without exhibiting behavioral extremes; perform work activities requiring negotiating, instructing, supervising, persuading or speaking with others; and respond appropriately to criticism from a supervisor.
