SUMMARY:

 

 

 

The Director of Institutional Giving is responsible for developing and maintaining a successful corporate, foundation, and government solicitation program.  The Director works with development staff, faculty, board members, and others to identify prospects, design and initiate strategies, and to produce materials, proposals, and applications as needed.  Develops and manages a portfolio of corporate and foundation prospects and donors in support of the Leadership Giving Initiative.

  • Manage a portfolio of Corporate and Foundation prospects, including developing strategies, proactively communicating with donors and prospects to build relationships and secure grants (often face-to-face), writing proposals, engaging and supporting faculty and staff in the solicitation process, and stewarding donors.  Meet annual fundraising goals as established by Executive Director of Development.
  • Develop and maintain a successful corporate, foundation, and government solicitation program including developing a strategic operating plan, identifying priorities and prospects, assigning prospect ratings, and recommending goals. 
  • Work with Assistant Director of Institutional Giving to secure sponsorship of strategic NEC Development events (including the Feast of Music) and/or other special events or programs as dictated by the Executive Director of Development.
  • Manage Institutional Giving office functions including supervision of the Assistant Director of Institutional Giving.  Working in tandem with appropriate IA senior staff, provide input to annual expense budget, and annual programmatic revenue budgets such as Feast of Music.
  • Identify new foundation and corporate donors and build a pipeline to support each area of the Leadership Giving Initiative and other institutional priorities as needed. 
  • In conjunction with the VP for IA and Executive Director of Development engage Board members and other volunteers and faculty to assist in identification, cultivation, and solicitation of corporations and foundations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

 

  • Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office Suite, Filemaker Pro and Adobe Pagemaker
  • Knowledge of Raisers Edge or similar fundraising software preferred
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum ten years experience in the development field.
  • Strong experience and record of success in planning and executing a capital campaign, including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major gifts from corporations and foundations.
  • Excellent writing, communication, presentation, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Desire and experience to personally secure sponsorships, solicit prospects and secure campaign gifts from corporations and foundations.
  • Strong experience motivating and supporting board members and other volunteers as well as faculty and administration.
  • Proven record of success in working with six and seven figure gifts
  • Proven positive track record in managing staff.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and flexibility that allow for effective management, team building, and quality relations with a variety of constituencies, including board members, donors, faculty, alumni, and staff.
  • Demonstrated and persuasive communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively recruit, train, motivate and direct staff.
  • Experience in higher education and/or cultural organizations preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to travel is essential.
  • Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends as required.
  • Employee must be able to relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions: works well with co-workers or peers without exhibiting behavioral extremes; perform work activities requiring negotiating, instructing, supervising, persuading or speaking with others; and respond appropriately to constructive feedback from a supervisor.
