The Associate Director of Annual Giving assists the Senior Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving in ensuring the growth and success of NEC’s Annual Fund program and the quality of contact and communications to donors and prospective donors through direct mail, telemarketing, e-solicitation, volunteer management and special events. This position will serve as the manager of the Annual Fund portion of the team when the Senior Director is traveling and will be expected to field all inquiries about the Annual Fund during those times; additionally, s/he will have frequent contact with members of NEC’s Boards, alumni, and leadership Annual Fund donors.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Work closely with the Senior Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving to develop and implement solicitation strategies for the Annual Fund program through: Direct Mail, Telemarketing (Phonathon), E-solicitation, Online Giving, Personal Solicitation, Stewardship, acknowledgement and events.
  • Plan, draft, manage and execute direct mail campaigns to Trustees and Overseers, alumni, parents, and other friends of the NEC community. 
  • Prepare monthly Annual Fund progress reports and correspondence on Annual Fund status for volunteers and staff.
  • Work closely with the Data Manager to ensure the accuracy of database records and computer-generated acknowledgements
  • Assist the Senior Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving and Annual Fund Committee Chair to plan, facilitate and execute Committee meetings
  • Assist Senior Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving with the production of Annual Fund donor stewardship events.
  • Oversee the implementation of NEC’s College and Preparatory Parents Program
  • Manage daily Annual Fund communication, both written and oral, with all levels of NEC’s donor community
  • Work in tandem with the Administrative Director in oversight and administration of the Annual Fund budget
  • Work closely with Donor Relations and PR & Marketing staff to produce and ensure the accuracy of donor listings in concert programs, the annual report, and other publications
  • Work with Institutional Giving staff to coordinate the solicitation of corporate/foundation vendors, donors and prospects.
  • Supervise the Assistant Director for Annual Giving and the Coordinator for Alumni Relations and Annual Giving
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • BA required but preference for advanced degrees.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and the ability to assume the managerial duties of the Annual Giving portion of the team during times when the Senior Director is traveling.
  • A thorough understanding of Annual Giving
  • Minimum of two-three (2-3) years of experience in the development field, preferably with Annual Giving experience.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and flexibility that allow for effective team building and quality relations with a variety of constituencies.
  • Demonstrated and persuasive written and oral communication, organization and presentation skills.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize a variety of projects is essential
  • Rigorous attention to detail and keen problem-solving skills
  • High level of discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Experience in higher education and /or cultural organizations preferred.
  • Familiarity with fundraising environment essential.
  • Previous experience overseeing the work of others preferred.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team
  • Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends a must.
