A Boston native, Susan Hagen received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Double Bass Performance from Boston University, graduating with honors as a student of Edwin Barker, principal bass of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. An active freelancer, for the past five seasons Susan has spent most of her time performing as an extra player with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

She also has spent much time as a bassist with the Boston Pops/Pops Esplanade Orchestra. Susan has been a frequent performer with Emmanuel Music of Boston,New England String Orchestra, Boston Classical Orchestra, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Chamber Orchestra of Boston, Opera Boston, the Boston Ballet Orchestra, Boston Lyric Opera, Handel & Haydn Society Orchestra, and the Utah Symphony, among others. She was a fellowship student at the Tanglewood Music Center in 1998 and again by invitation in 1999. Susan is bass coordinator for the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras.

Susan loves to play chamber music and will be performing chamber works this season as a founding member of Trio Nordica as well as with Winsor Music and Radius Ensemble.
