Samuel Adams created and directed NEC's School of Continuing Education and Summer School during his 25 years as an administrator, and was Chair of the SCE Piano Department from 2008-2016. He continues to teach both Continuing Education and Preparatory School piano students as SCE Department Chair Emeritus.

Adams is a solo recitalist in the Boston area and serves as director of music at First Church in Chestnut Hill. He received NEC's Robert A. Rachdorf Staff Award in 2001 and the prestigious Jean Stackhouse Award for Excellence in Teaching at NEC’s Preparatory School in 2008.

B.A., Washington and Lee University; M.M. in piano, NEC; Diploma in piano, Hochschule für Musik, Berlin; 1967–69 Fulbright Grant, Berlin; doctoral studies, Boston University School of Music. Piano studies with Lucille Monaghan, David Barnett, Howard Goding, Helmut Roloff, Bela Nagy; organ studies with James David Christie, Peter Sykes, and Donald Willing. Recordings with RIAS Radio, Berlin.
