Voice

Kathryn Fields read music before English. Her performing career spans opera, concert and cabaret. Roles: Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Despina (Così fan tutte), Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte), Lucy (The Telephone), Little Red Riding Hood (LLRH), Rosine (The Rejected Bridegroom), Pauline (La Vie Parisienne), Casilda (The Gondoliers), Monica (The Medium), Sandman/Dew Fairy (Hänsel and Gretel) for regional opera companies throughout the United States. NYC and world premières: Adelina Patti (Espresso Rossini), Voice (Power Project for BAM’s Next Wave Festival), Page (Christopher Sly), Titine (The Silver Fox), Lupe (Pancho Villa), Mercedes (Thursday’s Child), Laura (Mrs Bullfrog). Her Classical Cabaret has been seen from Maine to California, including the Cornelia Street Café in New York City and Upstairs at the Pudding in Cambridge. She holds a BA degree cum laude in English literature from the University of California at Berkeley and a BM in Vocal performance from the American CConservatory of Music in Chicago, later training with Norman Gulbrandsen (Northwestern University) and Daniel Ferro (the Juilliard School). Awards include Chicago NATS First Place Winner, Anna Frankel Memorial Scholarship, American Conservatory Commencement Contest and New York Oratorio Society. Voice faculty: New England Conservatory, Brown University (16 years), Triton College (5 years), private studio. Master classes: Cornell University, Ithaca College, Hunter College, Longy School of Music, Olin College, Gordon College, Victory Gardens Theater and St Nicholas Theater, among others. Her students have gone on to study at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, New England Conservatory, The University of Michigan, the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University and the University of South Florida, among others, and have appeared on film and in theaters from coast to coast, including on Broadway. She was heard for three years worldwide as Guest Artist at Madison Square Garden singing the National Anthem for the New York Knickerbockers and the Rangers.

The Progress of Desire
is her first song cycle. Ms Fields’ poems express one person’s emotional development over ten years of life. It had its world première in Brookline MA, August 2011; its South American première at the Teatro del Cultural in Arequipa, Peru, and its European première at the Vianden Music Festival in Luxembourg, both in August 2012.
