A native of Bethel, Connecticut, Jennifer Caraluzzi is a performer, educator and administrator. Hailed by Opera today as a "polished, soaring soprano," Jennifer completed her masters at New England Conservatory, studying with John Moriarty, Stephen Lord, and Lisa Saffer. Proud to be part of the NEC community, Jennifer currently serves on the voice faculty for their Preparatory School as well as the School of Continuing Education.
Jennifer performed as a Gerdine Young Artist with Opera Theater St. Louis for their 2012 season in the role of Frasquita in Carmen, as well as, understudying Despina in Cosí fan Tutte. Her other roles include Cunegonde in Candide, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Angelina in Trial by Jury, Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, Lucy in The Telephone, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, and Zerlina in Don Giovanni. Jennifer also worked with Opera Theater St. Louis, Michael Cristopher, and Terence Blanchard on the world premiere of Blanchard’s first opera, The Champion, which premiered in their 2013 season.
Her awards and scholarships include: 2010 winner of the Jenny Lind Vocal Competition for Sopranos, touring the summer of 2010 in Sweden, the Florence C. Rowe Voice Scholarship at New England Conservatory, Sergio Franchi Music Foundation Scholarship, James Furman Memorial Music Award Endowment, Schoolmasters Special Scholarship at Western Connecticut State University, Connecticut Choral Society Award, and has been a top-place winner in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Vocal Competition on three occasions.
Passionate about her art, Jennifer continues to perform and teach locally and abroad. Still active in her community in CT and NY, she performed the world premiere of "Wrensong," written for soprano and chamber orchestra by former Manhattan String Quartet first violinist, Eric Lewis. This song cycle was premiered in honor of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama’s visit to Connecticut in fall 2012. Jennifer recently completed the first recording of Seymor Barab's children's opera, "Little Red Riding Hood" with Western Connecticut State University Opera and Voice Dept. Chair, Dr. Margaret Astrup. "Little Red Riding Hood will be released by Centaur Records in 2016. Jennifer is also currently pursuing her MBA in Music Business from Berklee College of Music and Southern New Hampshire University.
