Soprano Soyoung Park '12 M.M., '14 A.D., entered the program in Fall 2012 and continues her studies with Lorraine Nubar. During the 2012-13 school year she sang the role of Cupid in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice in NEC's Jordan Hall and headlined as Lisetta in Rossini's La Gazzetta.
Park has also appeared at NEC as Queen of the Night in our 2011 production of Mozart's The Magic Flute and 2012 Boston premiere of Benjamin Britten's Paul Bunyan. She has reprised her showcase Mozart role both at Aspen in 2012, where she "delivered a relentless, forceful and blazingly sung Queen of the Night" according to MusicWeb's eyewitness, and more recently in her first principal role with a professional company in Boston Lyric Opera's October 2013 production.
Mezzo-soprano Jaime Korkos '11 G.D., '13 A.D., entered the program in Fall 2011. In Fall 2012 she sang the role of Orfeo in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice in NEC's Jordan Hall.
A student of Luretta Bybee, Korkos sang the role of Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni (in photo) and the title role of La Périchole, as well as the solo part in Mahler's Symphony No. 3, during her previous studies at NEC. She participated for two summers in the Gerdine Young Artist Program at Opera Theatre of St. Louis, including a small principal role as Edith in The Pirates of Penzance. The fall after completing the Artist Diploma, she commenced a five-city tour with Phillip Gossett and the Italian chamber group Ensemble Nuovo Musiche performing art songs of Verdi and his contemporaries.
Soprano Hae Ji Chang '12 A.D. entered the program in Fall 2010, jumping into another key Mozart role—Pamina in The Magic Flute (in photo)—and giving her first Jordan Hall recital in the 2010–11 season.
During the 2011–12 season, Chang, who studied with Lorraine Nubar, covered Giannetta from L'elisir d'Amore at New York City Opera in March and Mélisande from Pelléas et Mélisande at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis in June. She was cast as Giulietta in Opera Boston's 2012 production of Bellini's I Capuleti e i Montechhi—a production that unfortunately never took place, due to the closing of Opera Boston at the end of 2011. Chang gave her second Jordan Hall recital in November 2011.
Enrolled in the Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program at Los Angeles Opera in Fall 2012, Hae Ji Chang returned to NEC to sing the role of Euridice in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice in NEC's Jordan Hall in October 2012. She won The Pepita Embil Domingo Zarzuela Prize at the 2013 Operalia competition in Verona.
