Photo credit: Billie HowardNomi Epstein '03 M.M., a composer, collaborated with The Old Town School of Folk Music for their 55th anniversary and recent expansion.  Based on their logo, Epstein created her commissioned piece called "A Human Sound Sculpture. She explains "the performers form a circle with three openings. The three openings in the circle allow for new players to enter with their sound contribution while others leave, reforming and redeveloping the circle and sound world by its shifting personnel. The continuously changing personnel of the circle mirrors the continuously changing elements of a folk song passed down over time. Through these transformations, variation occurs, ultimately creating new versions of original initiatives." Fellow NEC Alumnus James Falzone '00 M.M. was part of the performing ensemble.  She is the driving force behind a-pe-ri-od-ic an experimental music collective which will present a festival of John Cage on April 13-15th.  Nomi is the daughter of NEC faculty members Frank and Mary Epstein and currently resides in Chicago.  2012-03-09
