Lawrence Fried ';75Lawrence Fried '75, was appointed Executive Director of Opera in the Heights, Houston's second largest opera company, in October 2011, and is responsible for all audience development, fundraising, education and community relations activities. Previously he spent five years as Executive Director of the Bellevue (WA) Philharmonic. Under his leadership, the Bellevue Philharmonic’s subscription sales increased 121% and overall contributions increased 46%. Prior to Bellevue, he was General Manager and Artistic Administrator of the San Antonio Symphony. 2012-03-06


Donald Appert '75, '77 M.M.Donald L. Appert ’75, 77, M.M. Trombone Performance, has received The American Prize in Orchestral Programming—Vytautas Marijosius Memorial Award in 2011 for his work with the Oregon Sinfonietta. He also was awarded his sixth ASCAPLUS Award this year. His work for full orchestra, Northwest Triptych, was premiered by the Oregon Sinfonietta in November of 2010 and he also conducted performances by state orchestras in Romania , El Salvador, and Slovakia in 2011. ABEditore (Milan, Italy) has agreed to publish his Concertino for bass clarinet and string orchestra and Vignette for string quartet or string orchestra this coming year. In July he guest conducted L’Orchestra Sinfonica Citta di Grosseto (Italy) in a set of concerts that included his Elegy for string orchestra. Gary Thor Wedow '75 MMConductor Gary Thor Wedow ’75 M.M. is making his Boston Lyric Opera debut this March, conducting Handel’s Agrippina. Gary’s 2010-11 season also includes productions of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte for Seattle Opera and an Opera Highlights Festival with the Seattle Symphony.  Gary is former Associate Conductor of Boston’s Handel and Haydn Society and is currently a faculty member at The Juilliard School.  While at NEC, Gary studied collaborative piano. 2011-01-26
